Campus Monfalcone
The identified project plot is located in a geographically marginal space with profoundly different urban and environmental boundary conditions.
On one side we have the city with its on the other we have the industrial district of Monfalcone and in the middle there is a strip of countryside wedged between the city and the industrial area.
The project aims to organise this marginal’ place by expressing an urban synthesis of these three systems: the proposed campus consists of a series of volumes that confront both the built-up area and the industrial warehouses, creating a relationship with the surrounding volumes, while natural greenery enters the project plot and becomes the campus park.
The existing school building is incorporated, thus creating an educational pole that acts as a hinge between the residential, industrial and natural systems.
The main directrixes on which the campus faces are via Grado and a new secondary route imagined as a transversal to via Grado, connecting the latter with via Gramsci. Finally, the circular garden, the heart of the project, is a formal reference and homage to the Fortress of Monfalcone.
